When the first shovel hits the ground at the new single-site acute care hospital, we will remember this week, when Windsor-Essex put politics aside and declared in a united voice: #WEareready.

Local leaders declare #WEareready

On Monday, our elected leaders joined together to reaffirm their commitment to the Windsor-Essex Hospitals System project and send a letter to Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins, letting him know Windsor-Essex is ready to move to the next stage in the planning process.

Erie St. Clair LHIN Board of Directors declares #WEareready

On Tuesday, the Board of the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) endorsed the site selection and re-alignment process that paved the way for the $2 billion healthcare investment in Windsor-Essex.

LHIN Board Chair, Martin Girash and President and CEO, Gary Switzer, express support for the proposed new Windsor-Essex Hospitals System.

This group does not have the power to approve the project, but members did pass a motion stating the new hospital system plan is consistent with the program and services plan from the Province and the LHIN. It also states that community consultation to date exceeds any requirement and expectations of the Province and the LHIN.

“The goal is to develop a 21st century healthcare system for Windsor-Essex. The proposed plan meets that in spades.” Martin Girash, Board Chair, Erie St. Clair LHIN

“Everybody’s had a chance to participate so it’s time to more forward.” Lindsay Boyd, LHIN Board Member

“You (The Steering Committee Chairs) were very open and honest. If you knew the answers, you told it straight. If you didn’t know the answers, you told it straight. You never once said, I don’t want to answer that question and you should be commended for that.” Barb Bjameson, LHIN Board Member

“When I saw how you did the consultation process and how thorough and transparent it was, I don’t think anybody has anything to say against the process itself and the decision to say let’s move forward.” Joseph Bisnaire, LHIN Board Member

#WEareready to Think Big

Tuesday evening, we welcomed Humber River Hospital President and CEO Dr. Rueben Devlin and Lucy Brun from Agnew Peckham to share their experiences with new hospital builds, at a public event at the Water’s Edge.

Dr. Devlin

In October, Dr. Devlin and his team at Humber River opened the first fully digital hospital in North America. He spoke to the crowd about what modern healthcare looks like, and how his team was able to overcome obstacles and make that project a reality. Lucy Brun is a healthcare and facility planner and Partner with Agnew Peckham and has a wealth of experience in the field. She says the level of community engagement here, is second to none.

Clear path to move forward, #WEareready

On Thursday, we learned that the group threatening to delay the project with a lawsuit had withdrawn its request for an injunction. The hospital is still facing a $10 million dollar claim from the second-place finisher in site selection; however, the legal proceedings will no longer have an impact on the project timeline.

The Windsor-Essex Hospitals System: Are you ready?

The team of supporters continues to grow. Are you ready to add your voice to the growing crowd of people saying #WEareready?

“The unified voice of all our elected officials regardless of their politics is huge. Also, the LHIN following suit with their motion and comments is massive. We will remember this week when we are putting a shovel in the ground.” David Musyj, President and CEO, Windsor Regional Hospital & Co-chair, Program and Services Steering Committee

It’s been a very positive week indeed and we are looking forward to many more as we take this project to the next level. Windsor-Essex, you deserve nothing less!
