#WEareready to Redesign Emergency Care

Every year, Windsor Regional Hospital treats 110,000 patients in its two emergency departments. “It always seems to me like we get busier and busier,” says Dr. Paul Bradford, Medical Director of Emergency & Trauma at the Ouellette Campus.

An aging population means increasing demands on emergency departments. Hospitals have to get creative and look for innovative ways to deliver care.

The proposed Windsor-Essex Hospitals System offers a new way of delivering emergency care at the proposed Urgent Care Centre. The facility, to be built at the former Grace Hospital site, will offer emergency care to low-acuity patients in the city’s core, while relieving pressure on the emergency department at the new acute care hospital.

At a recent discussion at Life After Fifty, two emergency care experts shared their thoughts on the proposal.

Dr. Paul Bradford says this creative model of care, is the way of the future.
