Windsor Regional Hospital Invites Input on New Corporate Name and Brand

Windsor Regional Hospital is embarking on a renaming and rebranding initiative and inviting all staff, patients, and community members to help shape the organization’s future identity by sharing their thoughts. This engagement marks an important step in a nine-month process that will result in a new name and a new look for the organization.

For more than 30 years, Windsor Regional Hospital has served as the corporate name, representing its identity and history. As the organization continues to evolve as a leader in regional health delivery, the name no longer accurately reflects the services offered, the communities served, and the role the organization plays in the health system.

The initiative is about more than a new logo or name; it's about building a future together and reflecting on who we are - as an organization, as a team, and as a community.

What Comes Next?

The input we receive will directly inform the development of a new corporate name, logo, and refreshed visual identity. This will be applied gradually across our existing sites and will be central to the look and feel of our new acute care hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Windsor Regional Hospital changing its name?

  • Windsor Regional Hospital has been the organization’s name for more than 30 years. It reflects our identity and our history.
  • But as the organization continues to evolve as a leader in regional health delivery, the name no longer accurately reflects the services offered, the communities served, and the role the organization plays in the health system.
  • We are evolving as a leader in regional health delivery. We have added additional services to serve patients within the region and beyond. We are in the community and partnering with other community and health care providers to ensure our community is as healthy as possible.
  • And we are planning a new state-of-the art facility that will transform healthcare in the region and serve our community for generations to come.
  • As we look ahead to a new hospital, the time is right to create a name and brand that reflects the work we are doing today, incorporates the future vision, and honors the legacy of our past.
  • This is a common step many large healthcare organizations, such as Trillium Health Partners and Waterloo Regional Health Network, have undergone significant rebranding as part of major redevelopment projects to ensure their identity reflects their facilities, services, and role they play in the community.

What is the process for renaming a hospital corporation in Ontario?

Hospitals are required to follow the Ministry of Health’s Hospital Naming Directive, which includes an expectation of consultation.

I thought the name was recently changed to Fancsy Family Hospital?

In August, Windsor Regional Hospital announced the new state-of-the-art acute care hospital being built at the corner of Cabana Road East and the 9th Concession will be named The Fancsy Family Hospital, in recognition of a transformational gift from the late John Thomas Fancsy.

The new corporate name will define the organization as a whole, while site-specific names - including the current Metropolitan and Ouellette Campuses, and the future Fancsy Family Hospital - provide a unique identity for the corporately run facilities.

Will this change the organization’s brand colours and logo?

Yes. As part of the rebrand, we will introduce a modernized logo and likely new colours to reflect who we are today and where we’re headed. These updates will be applied gradually as needed across our current sites and will be part of the modern look and feel of The New Fancsy Family Hospital.

Will this affect how services are delivered?

No. The new name and look will not change the care we provide or the way patients access services.

How are you making sure the new name represents the whole community?

  • This initiative is about more than a new logo or name; it’s about building our future together and reflecting on who we are - as an organization, as a team, and as a community.
  • All staff, professional staff, patients, partners, and community members are invited to help shape the organization’s future identity by completing a survey and sharing your thoughts.
  • We will also be out speaking to community members at events, including Open Streets Windsor.
  • Everyone is also invited to subscribe to the project email list for updates on The New Fancsy Family Hospital Project and the rebranding process.
  • Updates will also be shared through staff updates, newsletters, and community engagement sessions.

Who will make the final decision on the name?

The Windsor Regional Hospital leadership team will recommend a name to the hospital Board of Directors that incorporates the results of this engagement process. The hospital Board of Directors makes the final decision, which must then be endorsed by the Ministry of Health.

When will the new name and logo be announced?

The engagement process will continue through next spring, with a new name and brand expected to be unveiled in June.
