Local Share

The province covers 90% of new hospital builds. The City of Windsor and County of Essex have already committed to covering the 10% local share of the project which is $200 million.

On April 20, 2016, Essex County Council voted unanimously to cover 46% - $91.5 million - of the local share for a new Windsor-Essex Hospitals System. Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara called it the biggest decision Essex County Council will make this term.

On April 25, 2016, Windsor City Council voted (9-1) in favour of supporting a levy to cover 54% - or $108.5 million - of the $200 million local share of the new Windsor-Essex Hospitals System. Drew Dilkens described the council meeting as a truly momentous night for the City of Windsor.
