The Windsor-Essex Hospitals System is officially moving to Stage 2 planning, thanks to a $9.8 million investment from the Ontario government.
Premier Doug Ford and Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott made the announcement today at the site of the future Windsor/Essex New Acute Care Hospital.

What is stage 2?
Stage 2 involves the creation of a functional program for the new hospital. The functional program is a planning document that describes in detail the programs to be delivered, the workload associated with those programs, and the staffing, major equipment, and space required.
The functional program is based on planning parameters established by the Ministry of Health and will serve as a guide for the design process that occurs in the next planning stages.
Stage 2 will take about two years to complete and requires approval from the Ministry of Health before the project moves to the next stage in the 5-stage planning process.
What is different here from previous announcements regarding stage 2 funding?
Previous governments have committed the funding for Stage 2, but today the government delivered. With the $9.8 million planning grant, Windsor Regional Hospital can now begin the work involved in Stage 2 planning.
What happens next?
WRH will assemble a team of experts, with experience planning other world-class hospital facilities, to lead us through the functional programming. Throughout the planning process, this team will work with staff, professional staff, patients, visitors, community partners, and the wider community to ensure the end result reflects the needs of this entire region.
