“The Passing of an Eagle Feather Ceremony” to Honour New Indigenous Practice Protocol
WINDSOR, ON. Windsor Regional Hospital is introducing a new Indigenous Practice Protocol, making it easier for staff to safely accommodate patient requests to perform Indigenous ceremonies or practices at the hospital. Recognizing the value of Indigenous healing practices and using them in the treatment of patients in collaboration with Indigenous healers and Elders when requested by patients, is one of the 94 calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
In recognition of this new protocol, a Traditional Knowledge Keeper, Mike Hopkins, from the Delaware First Nation will be honouring both of our campuses by presenting us with an Eagle Feather. The Eagle holds the power of vision, strength and courage - the same vision, strength and courage the team displayed in the development of this Indigenous Practice Protocol.
DATE: June 18, 2019
LOCATION: Windsor Regional Hospital, Clinical Education Room
TIME: 10:30 am
SPEAKERS:
• Audrey Logan, WRH Indigenous Navigator
• David Musyj, President and CEO, Windsor Regional Hospital
• Mike Hopkins, Traditional Knowledge Keeper, Delaware First Nation
Following the presentation, Mr. Hopkins will lead a smudging ceremony in the Met Campus Atrium, which will include an opportunity for staff and guests to participate.
