OVERVIEW
The Windsor Regional Hospital Emergency Program provides a full range of services to meet the unscheduled and emergency healthcare needs for individuals of all ages in Windsor and Essex County. The Emergency Department (ED) at both hospital campuses are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and see more than 107,000 patients each year.
The Met Campus Emergency Department is located on the ground floor of the hospital with access from Byng Rd. It is the main emergency centre for Paediatrics, Women & Children and Oncology.
The Ouellette Campus Emergency Department is located on the ground floor of the Hospital with access from Goyeau St. It is the main emergency centre for Mental Health, Cardiac Care, Stroke and Trauma.
OUR TEAM
The ED team is made up of physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other allied team professionals such as social workers, physiotherapists, and pharmacists.

FAQ's
- At Triage: Upon arrival a triage nurse will speak to you about your illness or injury, assess your condition and may start some tests. Let the triage nurse know about any pre-existing medical conditions, any medications you are taking and any allergies.
- At Registration: Following triage, you will be asked to visit the Patient Registration Desk to complete your patient record. Please have your health card ready.
- While I am waiting: Patients are prioritized based on the severity of their conditions. The sicker patients are treated first. Your wait will depend how many other are waiting, how sick they are and how sick you are. Due to the unpredictable needs and severity of medical conditions of other patients, we are unable to give you a predicted wait time. If your condition changes while you wait, please inform the triage nurse.

When coming to the Emergency Department, please bring:
- Your Health Card;
- Emergency Contacts; and
- A list of medications, medical history and known allergies.

| Special parking is available for ED visitors at the Ouellette Campus, outside the Goyeau St. entrance and at the Met Campus outside the ED entrance on Byng Rd. |
| It is the routine policy of the Emergency Department to not refill narcotic prescriptions. This is consistent with practice across many if not all hospital Emergency Departments in Canada. In general, we strongly discourage the use of our EDs for any prescription refill requests. If you need a prescription refilled, visit your family doctor or ask your pharmacist to facilitate the request. |
| The sickest patients are always seen first. Patients are assessed during triage based on medical need. All hospitals in Canada use the same tool to identify and prioritize patients based on five triage levels ranging from critical to non-urgent. |
| Check with the triage nurse before eating or taking any medications on you own. If you are diabetic and you need to eat or take your medication, speak with the triage nurse so your blood sugar can be checked. |
| When you are discharged, you will be given instructions to follow once you leave the hospital. You may also be given prescriptions for medicine and a follow-up appointment time with your doctor and/or other health care professionals. If you have not received any follow-up instructions or do not understand them please ask one of our staff members in the Emergency Department. |

You are responsible for payment of any amounts not covered by your insurance provider. Examples of services that are not insured by OHIP include:
- Ambulance Services;
- Semi-Private or Private Accommodation;
- Appliances, i.e. crutches, boots, cervical collars;
- Telephone Services;
- Cosmetic Surgery; and
- Delisted Services, i.e. circumcisions.
