COVID-19 Assessment Centre Hours Adjusted

Windsor Regional Hospital is reducing the weekday hours of operation for our COVID-19 Assessment Centre due to lower evening volumes of individuals seeking a swab test for the virus.
Effective Thursday, June 4, the COVID-19 Assessment Centre will now be open 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday (instead of 9 am to 9 pm). Hours on Saturday and Sunday will remain unchanged at 9 am to 4 pm.
Hours at the Assessment Centre, located at Ouellette Campus next to the Emergency Department, were extended after hitting record-breaking volumes a week ago, reaching a peak of 319 visitors on May 27. However, given a significant drop-off in volumes in late afternoon, we are readjusting hours and resources to better reflect these volumes. For example, of the 128 visitors seen yesterday (June 2nd), only five of these individuals came to the centre after 7 pm.
The COVID-19 Assessment Centre has been open since March 16 and, as of the centre's close yesterday (June 2nd), has swabbed 5,619 people out of 6,270 individuals – a testing rate of almost 90 per cent. After initially being based on a specific set of guidelines, the criteria for testing has expanded over the past few weeks and since April 1st, the vast majority of those who arrived for an assessment have received a swab test. Late last month, the Premier of Ontario encouraged ALL individuals to get tested if they want one, including those who are asymptomatic.
As has always been in the case in Windsor, you do NOT need a referral from Telehealth Ontario, primary care, or the Health Unit in order to be tested. Parking is free.
The COVID-19 Assessment Centre is staffed with two (2) physicians and nursing staff daily. Patients should also know that the COVID-19 Assessment Centre is a safe environment for testing and care.
When you attend the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at the Ouellette campus of WRH you will:
- Get swabbed to determine if you are positive for COVID-19;
- Get free parking;
- Get "in an out" quickly, safely and efficiently; and
- By getting tested you can protect yourself, your family and your community.
