WRH Recognized with Healthy Workplace Awards
20-11-2020
At.a.time.when.health and safety are paramount in the workplace due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Windsor Regional Hospital has been recognized with a Healthy Workplace Award.
WRH received the highest rating, a Gold Standard for Health and Safety, Mental Health Promotion and Organizational Social Responsibility Award.
Handed out annually by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, Working Toward Wellness Committee, Canadian Mental Health Association Windsor-Essex County branch and Family Services Windsor-Essex, the award identifies workplaces that have implemented comprehensive wellness activities and initiatives that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Given the challenges this year for some workplaces to remain open out of necessity, the Healthy Workplace Award shifted its focus to recognize the difficulties and opportunities associated with staying open and maintaining public safety.
Windsor Regional Hospital was one of 31 local workplaces to earn the awards.
Among some of the initiatives noted in the application were the staff, patient and visitor screening, the Employee Assistance Program, and physical barriers and distancing markers.
"This award for Windsor Regional Hospital is not just about a plaque on the wall," says Jon Beveridge, Coordinator of Occupational Health and Safety. "It’s a reflection of the culture where we have to look out for one another especially in the current environment. When our staff are safe, both physically and mentally, more energy can go into patient care."
In previous years, the awards were presented during a breakfast meeting but for the first time in its 18 year history, businesses and non-profit organizations accepted their awards virtually on Wednesday, November 18th.
"WRH employees have faced many challenges during these unprecedented times and they give it their all every day to ensure the safety of our patients, the public, and each other," says Laura Janisse, Manager of Human Resources. "Our Healthy Lifestyles initiatives provide tools and resources to help employees care for themselves, which is paramount.
Special mention to Jessie Wilson in Human Resources for submitting the application.
