Statement Regarding COVID-19 Vaccine Extension of the Second Dose to 16 Weeks

8-3-2021

News

As announced on March 8th, 2021, the government has mandated that the time period between a first dose and a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine be extended to 16 weeks. This applies to anyone who has received their first dose already and had not received their second dose as of March 10th, or anyone who will receive a first dose moving forward. (There are some very limited exceptions, such as for long-term care and retirement home residents).

This is pursuant to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommendation found online here and the Government of Ontario’s directive online here.

The following is a handy chart for individuals who had their first dose and are wondering when their new second dose date would be:

We will continue to work under the direction of the Government of Ontario as to the Provincial roll-out plan of COVID-19 vaccines.
