In its five-year presence at Windsor Regional Hospital, hundreds of families have been able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House and close to their sick child in hospital.

Providing the comforts of home, Canada’s first ‘House-Within-a-Hospital’ marked its five-year anniversary on Thursday, May 6th with a virtual event that included speeches, family testimonials, and a special video about what the Ronald McDonald House has meant for families.

The numbers speak for themselves.

SINCE MAY 2016:

  • 554 families have been served
  • 3,209 day passes families served
  • 19,359 day pass visits to RMH Windsor
  • 7,130 Nights of Comfort
  • 6,872 individuals served with a Cart With A Heart
  • The longest night stay was 102

During the celebration, Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj noted as plans move forward with a new acute care hospital, Ronald McDonald House will form an integral part of that facility.

“It truly has allowed families who are struggling, who are struggling with the health of their child, with financial issues to be able to be within steps of their loved one during the most critical of times,” said Musyj. “That is invaluable, that cannot be replicated without having an organization like RMH inside of our facility.”

Families were asked to describe the RMH is one word. They responded with relaxation, fun, comforting safe, friendship, compassion, and home.
