Recognizing Patients and Staff who are Going the Distance in the Movement Matters Program
Patients recovering in hospital can lose up to 5% of their muscle mass each day. In September, the WRH Mobility team launched the Movement Matters Program to keep "at risk" patients strong, by motivating them to get up and moving. Nurses and ambulation assistance log the distance patient's travel each day in the patients, charts. The distance is then tallied throughout both hospital campuses and charted on an organization-wide map to see how far patients have travelled as a group, since the program began.
Tomorrow, during the first Movement Matters quarterly pit stop and pep rally, the teams will see how far patients in the program have travelled in the first leg of the program and hear the impact the program is already having.
Martin Sobocan, whose family member recently benefited from the program, will attend to share his experience and offer his support for the next leg of the journey.
