Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women
National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
Across the country, Canadians mark December 6th as a tragic day in our history. On December 6th, 1989, 14 women at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal were murdered after a shooter entered a mechanical engineering classroom and walked around other areas of the school firing at people. 14 others were injured. The shooter then turned the gun on himself.
It is one of Canada's deadliest mass shootings in Canadian history.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women raises awareness of gender-based violence and acts as a reminder that more needs to be done.
