Increased Publicly Funded Surgeries In Community
Response to Premier Ford Announcement on Increased Publicly Funded Surgeries In Community
Today, the Ontario government announced plans to make it easier and faster for people to access the publicly funded surgeries and procedures they need by further leveraging community surgical and diagnostic centres to eliminate surgical backlogs and reduce wait times.
As noted in an Oct. 12, 2022 news release HERE, and as referenced in the government release issued today (Ontario Reducing Wait Times for Surgeries and Procedures | Ontario Newsroom), Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) has a local partnership with Dr. Fouad Tayfour and Dr. Barry Emara that frees up hospital space and resources at Windsor Surgical Centre.
The Centre has been collaborating with WRH to complete their cataract and retina procedures of hospital-registered patients. This innovative collaboration led to the completion of thousands of procedures, resulting in quicker access to care while lowering the cataract wait times.
Today, officials from both WRH and Windsor Surgical Centre will be holding an online news conference to further explain the benefits of this partnership that improves wait times and protects hospital resources in our public health system.
