Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah (Judaism)

Shemini Atzeret is a Jewish holiday celebrated on the 2nd of the Hebrew month Tishrei. It follows the Jewish festival of Sukkot, falling on the eight day.

The day involves recitation of the prayer for rain, singing and dancing with the Torah, completing the yearly cycle of Torah readings and beginning the next cycle of readings, and refraining from work.

It is followed by Simchat Torah, or Rejoicing with the Torash, which is a Jewish holiday that celebrates and marks the conclusion of the annual cycle of public Torash readings.
