Tisha B’Av (Judaism)

Tisha B’Av, or the Ninth of Av, is an annual day of fasting in Judaisim. It is considered the saddest day of the Jewish calendar, marking the end of the Three Weeks, or Bein ha-Metzarim, a period of mourning for the destruction of the first and second Jewish Temples.

The day commemorates 5 specific historical tragic events that warrant fasting on this day. Over time, other tragedies occurring around this day are also commemorated.
