EVENT DETAILS:
Hajj (Islam)
The Hajj, or pilgrimage, is the fifth pillar in Islam. Adult Muslims who are physically and financially able are expected to make the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.
The Hajj begins on the 7th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah and lasts until the 12th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah. These dates will fall tentatively between June 4th and June 9th this year.
Because the first day of the month is determined by the lunar calendar or sighting of the new moon, it is often confirmed 1-2 days before the start of the month. This date in the Gregorian calendar will shift 10-11 days every year.
For those who are not participating in the Hajj as a pilgrim, fasting on the Day of Arafah (the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah; June 6th this year) is highly encouraged.
