Ontario Health Recognizes WRH Renal Program
14-10-2020
The.Windsor.Regional Hospital Renal Program has been recognized by the Ontario Renal Network for its work in kidney care, being among the most improved renal programs in the province.
It has been recognized for achieving a high annual growth rate for the Home Dialysis Prevalence Indicator which tied for the highest annual relative growth rate among all renal programs in the province for the last four quarters.
In the last four quarters, the local program has grown by 12.4%.
As of September 2020, there were 90 patients in the Home Dialysis Program compared to 41 patients back in July 2014.
"To be recognized on a provincial platform is beyond words to the Renal Program," says Operations Manager of the Renal Program Kristen Mailloux. "The collaborative approach of our entire team has been so amazing over the years to move these metrics and provide optimal patient care. We are so proud to represent the Renal Program at Windsor Regional Hospital."
The program was also recognized for meeting its year-end target for the Deferred Dialysis Indicator. Clinical evidence has demonstrated that early dialysis initiation does not improve patient outcomes or quality of life. An intent to defer chronic dialysis initiation strategy has been encouraged by the Ontario Renal Network.
"We are pleased to recognize the outstanding work of our Regional Renal Programs in their continued efforts to ensure the delivery of high-quality renal care in Ontario," says Dr. Peter Blake, Provincial Medical Director of Ontario Health. "The great work being done in local communities across the province is critical to improving care for people with chronic kidney disease and the efforts to keep people safe and healthy in these unprecedented times has been particularly exceptional."
Using both regional and facility-level data, Ontario Health examines Regional Renal Programs to monitor progress in several indicators and acknowledges top performers.
