A student from Academie Ste-Cecile in Windsor is spreading positivity among patients at Windsor Regional Hospital.

As part of her Middle Years Program community project, Grade 8 student Divya Bagga has created more than 100 "Get Well Soon" cards to be distributed throughout the hospital. Bagga enlisted the help of Grade 1 and 2 students from her school who were tasked with finger painting designs such as flowers and birds on the cards. Then, with her artistic eye and skill for calligraphy, Bagga put her personal touch on each card adding well wishes while completing the designs done by the younger students.

“I decided that the hospital was an ideal place to make a difference and bring positivity with my artistic and colourful handmade cards,” explains Bagga. “I want to bring a small reminder to these patients that they have someone in their life who cares for them and wishes for a peaceful and successful recovery with positivity and love.”

Restrictions put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic inspired the idea for Bagga who wanted to make sure patients who couldn’t see their loved ones didn’t feel alone.

“Imagine suffering from a terrifying condition with many different emotions and fears that even the doctors may not have all the answers for,” says Bagga. “I believe these cards could bring a smile to the patients' faces and help them feel more positive during their time at the hospital.”

Bagga says she feels a special connection to WRH and its patients as both her parents are employed at the hospital — Nephrologist Dr. Amit Bagga is her father while her mother Monica Bagga works as a Pharmacist at Ouellette Campus.

The Grade 8 student was given the chance to hand deliver a number of the “Get Well Soon” cards while hospital staff will handle distributing the rest in the coming weeks.

Amazing work Divya!
