Cynthia Bissonnette, Board Member

Cynthia Bissonnette Retired from St. Clair College as Director of Strategic Planning Health Sciences and Nursing

Appointed: 2018

Education: Diploma Nursing from St, Clair College (1975), Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Windsor (1994), Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Windsor (2004).

Healthcare: Cynthia began her career as a hospital nurse. In 1985, she joined the faculty at St. Clair College in the Practical, Diploma, and Collaborative Nursing programs. As her career continued she held the positions of Chairperson for the School of Nursing followed by Director of Strategic Planning for Health Sciences and Nursing, where she was directly involved in the clinical design, technology, and simulation labs for the Centre for Applied Health Sciences.

Committees: Quality of Care Committee, and Patient & Caregiver Council. 

Family: Married to Rick, with two children and six grandchildren.

Laura Copat, Board Member

Education: Diploma in Nursing from St. Clair College, Bachelor's of Nursing from the University of Victoria, Master's of Nursing from the University of Victoria, Master of Healthcare Administration from Capella University, Master of Business Administration from Capella, and a certificate in Business Administration from McMaster University.

Healthcare: Laura started her nursing career over 25 years ago. For the last several years have been in a senior leadership role over multiple hospital campuses. Ensuring the highest quality of care is being provided and that the hospital remains compliant with all rules, regulations, and bylaws.

Dr. Nila Das, Board Member

Mary Dawson, Board Member

Mary Dawson Retired from Mount Sinai Hospital Toronto

Appointed: 2021

Education: Registered Respiratory Therapist Michener Institute of Health Sciences Toronto, RRT (A) the University of Miami.

Healthcare: Mary spent a number of years as Director of Respiratory Therapy at Women's College Hospital Toronto which at the time had one of Canada's larger high-risk obstetrical and Neonatal Programmes. Upon retirement, Mary was (Acting) Director at Mount Sinai Hospital Toronto. Her work included program development and implementation, policy development, education, and research.

Family: Upon retirement, Mary and her husband Malcolm moved back to her hometown of Windsor, a move they are pleased to have made.

Dr. Laurie Freeman, Board Member

Dr. Laurie Freeman Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Nursing-University of Windsor

Appointed: 2016

Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Windsor (1987), Masters of Science in Nursing-Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (1999) from Wayne State University, and her Doctorate in Nursing - Biobehavioral Health (2012) from the University of Michigan.

Healthcare Experience: Dr. Freeman has worked in health care for over 29 years in many different roles in Canada and the United States. She is the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program Graduate Coordinator and the Coordinator for the Oncology Palliative Care Diploma Program. Her areas of research interest include Oncology (Breast Cancer), Survivorship, Palliative Care, Cognitive Impairment and the Student Experience within Post-Secondary Education.

David Malian, Board Member

David S Malian Community Practice Advisor, Ontario College of Pharmacists

Education: BSc, Psychology-McMaster University, B.Sc.Phm, Wayne State University

Healthcare: David has had a varied career in pharmacy practice. He is a former Director of Pharmacy at Windsor Western I.O.D.E Hospital and a previous owner of three pharmacies in Essex County. David was employed for Green Shield Canada as the Director of Pharmacy Services, Pfizer Canada as their Director of Professional Relations, and as a consultant for the Canadian Council for the Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs. He is a Past President of the Ontario Pharmacists Association and the Ontario College of Pharmacists. David has maintained his license to practice as a frontline community pharmacist in Essex County for over 40 years.

Profession: She joined WRH in 1999 and has been the President and CEO since May 202. Karen provides support, guidance, and direction for the Directors and Managers of these departments as they develop, implement, and sustain improvements in processes and care delivery to ensure positive patient outcomes. Karen leads the Hospital Acquired Infection and Hand Hygiene Corporate indicator and is dedicated to continuous system and process improvements throughout her portfolio and the entire organization.
