Strategic Objectives 2021-2024
Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy or direction, and making decisions on allocating its - resources to pursue this strategy.
Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy.
In 2020, WRH revisited and revised our corporate Strategic Plan for 2021-2024.
As part of the Windsor Regional Hospital Strategic Planning process we had a cross-section of employees, volunteers, patients, and professional staff come together to develop the plan, and also included feedback from patients/families and community members on what was important to them and what should be the direction for Windsor Regional Hospital.
The Strategic Planning process always includes examining our current Vision, Mission, and Values. As all of us know our Vision of providing "Outstanding Care...No Exceptions!" is what we live and breathe on a daily basis in everything we do. A Vision is an aspirational description of what an organization would like to achieve or accomplish in the mid-term or long-term future. It is intended to serve as a clear guide for choosing current and future courses of action. Our Vision is as important now as it's ever been, and remains the same.
A Mission is a written declaration of an organization's core purpose and focus. A mission is different from a vision in that the former is the cause and the latter is the effect; a mission is something to be accomplished whereas a vision is something to be pursued for that accomplishment. The WRH Mission has been updated to more clearly capture what it is we do for our community, and how we fulfill our Vision.
Mission: Provide quality person-centred health care services to our community.
Our Corporate Values centre around an acronym CARE: C=Compassionate, A=Accountable, R=Respectful, and E=Exceptional Values are important and are lasting beliefs or ideals shared by a team about what is good or bad and desirable or undesirable. Values have a major influence on a person's behaviour and attitude and serve as broad guidelines in all situations.
For the 2021-2024 Strategic Plan we added a value that recognizes and respects our community's history:
We respectfully acknowledge that the Windsor Regional Hospital occupies the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of the Niswi Ishkodewan Anishinaabeg: The Three Fires Confederacy (Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi). We acknowledge the land and the surrounding waters for sustaining us and we are committed to protecting and restoring these lands and waters from environmental degradation.
Although important, our motto of "Compassion is Our Passion" is not part of our strategic plan. A motto is a short sentence that encapsulates the beliefs or ideals guiding an organization.
One question still remains: "How do we make sure what we do, on a daily basis, drives the achievement of our Vision?" We need to OPERATIONALIZE our Strategic Directions and Initiatives. The bottom line is if we are doing something that does not advance our Strategic Plan, we should stop doing it. This operationalization of the Strategic Plan creates a focus for our day-to-day activities.
All the links above are yearly, program-specific objectives we are all working on to operationalize our 2021-2024 Strategic Plan. Please take some time to read details about your Program and look at others. You will notice we are all "rowing in the same direction". This is impressive.
A Strategic Plan is always intended to be a living and breathing document that must adapt to the needs of the people we serve. This means we will need to revisit the plan, especially how we operationalize it.
