High School Co-op Placements
Student Opportunities
All students interested in completing a CO-OP placement at Windsor Regional Hospital must inform their CO-OP teacher at school and are required to complete an application package to be considered for admission. A competitive interview day is set up each semester for student applicants from all schools.
Each semester, the available placement opportunities are confirmed with the schools before applications are accepted.
CO-OP Education Placement Options
Metropolitan Campus
Paediatric Department (AM/PM)
Appropriate for students interested in Child Life Specialist, Nursing, or the Medical Field
Duties:
- Assist patients before/after surgical procedures
- Prepare crafts and activities for various ages
- Interact with patients and help them participate in recreation activities, games, and diversionary activities
- Supervise patients while parents take a break
- Bring toys to patient rooms
- Sanitize and restock supplies throughout the department
Fracture Clinic (AM/PM)
Appropriate for students interested in Nursing and the Medical Field, specifically Orthopedics, Radiology, or Physician Assistant
Duties:
- Collect patient chart/information
- Call in patients for appointments
- Assist patients who require a wheelchair
- Restock clinic supplies, photocopy and fax paperwork upon request
- Telephone patients for appointment reminders
- Sanitize beds, tables and chairs
- Dispose of used supplies
Food and Nutrition (PM only)
Appropriate for students interested in Food and Nutrition/Dietician
Duties:
- Assist with updating patient resources
- Assist with Patient Satisfaction Surveys
- Complete dish room and tray accuracy audits
- Assist with feeding preparation for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Inventory, restock, label, and prepare supplies and products
Pharmacy (AM/PM)
Appropriate for students interested in Pharmacy
Duties:
- Assist with medication labeling and packaging processes
- Support prescription filling and medication delivery to patient care areas
- Observe sterile compounding and medication preparation procedures
- Gain exposure to automated dispensing systems and medication distribution processes
- Understand inventory management and medication ordering practices
- Observe the overall role and responsibilities of Pharmacists
Information Technology (IT) (AM/PM)
Appropriate for students interested in Technology Support and Logistics Services
Duties:
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Tech Support Department
- PC Troubleshooting and Imaging: Software installation and break/fix on various computer modules
- PC Deployment: PC installation in a hospital environment
- Printer troubleshooting
- Inventory control (new PC equipment, spare parts, technical equipment)
- E-waste Recycling: Separate and document unwanted PC related parts and equipment
Ouellette Campus
Adult Day Surgery (AM/PM)
Appropriate for students interested in Nursing or the Medical Field
Duties:
- Assist patients who require a wheelchair
- Provide snacks/drinks to patients after surgery
- Provide warm blankets to patients
- Assist with patient directions
- Dispose of soiled linen bags
- Restock snacks/drinks, blanket warmer, and medical supplies
- Assemble phlebotomy kits, patient gowns/foot covers
- Sanitize wheelchairs and patient beds
- Lock up patient belongings and return items to patients after surgery
Information Technology (IT) (AM/PM)
