OVERVIEW
The Operational Excellence (OpEx) team drives sustainable cost savings and efficiency by fostering a culture of continuous improvement, utilizing methodologies like Lean and Six Sigma to eliminate waste and optimize processes. Through evidence-based Quality Improvement practices and collaboration, OpEx supports hospital departments in reducing variation and improving efficiency with the goal of reducing cost, maximizing revenue, empowering staff and improving outcomes. This work lays the foundation for a high-performing, future-ready acute care hospital and a consistently outstanding patient experience.
OpEx GOALS
- Cost Reduction & Revenue Maximization: Focus on enhancing financial performance by reducing non-value-added activities and maximizing efficiency
- Process Optimization: Utilize Lean Methodologies to identify and eliminate waste, as well as Six Sigma to reduce errors that lead to costly rework
- Clinical Efficiency: Streamline patient care pathways to reduce length of stay (LOS) and improve turnaround times
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Using KPIs to identify process and financial opportunities
- Clinical & Operational Integration: Ensure that improvements in efficiency also improve (rather than compromise) patient outcomes, safety, and staff satisfaction

A multidisciplinary team of clinical and non-clinical staff, including nurses, MBAs, change management experts, and analysts, who are committed to working together to reduce hospital costs and maximize revenue while creating an outstanding patient experience through best practice and innovation.

- Conservable Bed Days Reduction: Reduce the number of days patients stay in the hospital longer than medically necessary by focusing on standardized care and system efficiency. This allows for beds to be available for additional patients needing our acute care services and reduces costs to our hospital system.
- OR Pick Card Standardization: The primary goal is to reduce waste, lower costs, and increase efficiency by ensuring only necessary items are brought into the room and opened for cases.
- Supply Cart Optimization: Improve efficiency, organization, and streamline the process of restocking supplies to reduce costs, minimize expired goods, and ensure immediate availability of necessary supplies at the point of care.
