Pharmacy Services
OVERVIEW
Pharmacy services at Windsor Regional Hospital include two inpatient departments providing medication for patients at both Met and Ouellette campuses, a specialized team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians providing chemotherapy to patients in our Regional Cancer Centre, and outpatient retail pharmacies at both Met and Ouellette campuses.
The pharmacy team includes registered pharmacy technicians trained to compound intravenous therapy and other specialized compounds as well as interview patients to collect important home medication information prior to admission. Additionally, the team also includes highly trained pharmacists in the areas of Cancer therapy, critical care, internal medicine, chronic kidney disease, cardiology, infectious disease, and general pharmacology. The pharmacists at Windsor Regional Hospital are responsible for ensuring that appropriate medications and doses are prescribed for the patient’s disease state and that no drug interactions exist between the medications prescribed for treatment during the patient's hospital stay, ensuring effective and safe medication use.
Our retail pharmacies are accredited community pharmacies that provide patient education and professional advice on all medications. The retail pharmacies have a first-fill program where patients in the hospital can get their discharge prescriptions filled prior to leaving the hospital. Any refills on these prescriptions are then sent to the patient’s regular home pharmacy for future need. We also provide flu and COVID vaccinations and compliance packaging for prescription medications.
All profits generated by the Windsor Regional Hospital retail pharmacies go towards funding hospital patient care initiatives.
